It Was All Yellow

I love the colour yellow. Especially at this time of year when the daffodils and crocus are all in full bloom. It’s as if they are a sign that good times are on their way after the cold, harsh winter when we just want to hibernate like the hedgehogs and squirrels.

I love to see Daffodils growing wild in the countryside. This poem from William Wordsworth describes it perfectly.

I wondered lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o’er vales and hills

And all at once I saw a crowd

A host of golden daffodils

With Easter fast approaching the cute little chicks are everywhere, a sure sign of new life and re-birth.

Everyone feels better when the sun is out don’t they?

I’m not good with hot temperatures but I love to see the garden transform and the long days and balmy nights. When I was a child we used to hold buttercups up to our chin to see if we liked butter? I wonder if children still do it now (probably not!).

I love to sit in the garden with a good book, everyone seems happier and healthier when the sun is shining.

There’s lots of yellow around in the fashion magazines this season. You wouldn’t catch me in a yellow dress but I like to accessorise with scarves and bags to brighten up my dreary outfits. Somehow just by adding a hint of yellow it lifts the spirits.

Lemons are my favourite fruit (especially when added to ice in a gin and tonic!) There is something very cleansing and refreshing about lemons. I think you can transform a kitchen with a bowl of big, juicy lemons.

There are loads of health benefits to lemons too. The vitamin C will soon have you super fit and ready for summer!

Even the home interior magazines have added yellow to the colour pallettes for Spring. I don’t think I will be painting the walls yellow or buying a yellow sofa, but a few cushions, a nice fluffy throw or a lampshade can have a really dramatic impact on a room.

I like bedrooms to look fresh and inviting so a splash of mustard or lemon makes such a difference.

Of course gold is yellow and the most popular yellow gemstone is citrine. Other yellow gemstones are Topaz, Beryl and Yellow Quartz. Citrine is said to be a gift from the sun and has healing qualities.

Gold is associated with winning and athletes dedicate themselves to earning a coveted gold trophy.

Do you like the Coldplay song called Yellow? It’s one of my favourite songs but I must confess that I have no idea what it is about.

Look at the stars
Look how they shine for you
And everything you do
Yeah they were all yellow
I came along
I wrote a song for you
And all the things you do
And it was called “Yellow”

Yellow roses are a symbol of friendship. Traditionally they are sent as a Get Well or Congratulations message . I have a creeping yellow rose in the garden which blooms in June.

In Feng Shui yellow brings two elements. A bright yellow symbolises Fire and the lighter tones bring the Earth element.

Do you have a favourite colour which can change your mood or bring back happy memories?

Perhaps there is a colour that you hate (it could be yellow!).

Is there a colour which reminds you of a school uniform or your grandmother’s wallpaper ?

Maybe you find a colour soothing or optimistic, like yellow does for me.

Thank you for reading.
